Located in the City of Port Harcourt, Rivers State,Nigeria is the University of Port Harcourt, a tertiary institution open to all who wish to attain a higher level of education. It was established in 1975 as University College, Port Harcourt and was given University status in1977. The University of Port Harcourt was ranked the sixth in Africa and the first in Nigeria by Times Higher Education (THE) in 2015

It changed from a school system to a faculty system in 1982. The university has twelve faculties:

Under the administration of one of the former ViceChancellor’s , Professor Nimi Briggs, UNIPORT reached a milestone by being the first universityto train the first set of NuclearEngineers in Nigeria. The University also won a grantfrom the World Bank to build up acenter of excellence in oilfield chemicals.

The University has been noted as one of the best institutions in Nigeria involved in the study of business ethics and indigenous entrepreneurship development. UNIPORT is affiliated with the Association of CommonwealthUniversities (ACU),Association of African Universities (AAU) and theUniversity of Port Harcourt TeachingHospital.
